The Kara Sea, the Matheson Strait A meeting with the
icebreaker "Arctica". The skipper wrote in his diary:
"The first thirty minutes were a nightmare. The ice
floes either closed down astern the icebreaker and
we had to ram them, or the screws of the icebreaker
threw them out straight under the yacht and we received
strong blows. Evidently from the outside it looked
as a gallop on a restive horse..."
